    Bharat Mata

     

    Bharat Mata, that is, the Mother India  (Bharat - India, Mata - Mother) is a personification of India, and relatively seen by some as a mother goddess of fertility. She is usually depicted as a lady, clad in a saree holding a flag.

    Meaning :

    I pay my obeisance to mother Bharat, whose feet are being a washed by the ocean, who wears the mighty Himalaya as her crown, and who is exuberantly adorned with the gems of traditions set by Brahmarsis and Rajarsis.

     

    Bharat Mata Temples

    Varanasi

    It is located in the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth campus. The Bharat Mata temple was built by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupt and inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1936. The statute of Bharat Mata is built in marble and is a model of undivided India, depicting the mountains, plains and oceans.

    Haridwar

    Bharat Mata temple in Haridwar, built by Swami Satyamitranand Giri. Consecration of this temple took place on 15 May 1983. Here, Bharat Mata holds a milk urn in one hand and sheaves of grain in the other, which signify the nurture provided by the mother as a baby and as an adult.

     There are many other smaller shrines of Bharat Mata for example at Vrindavan, Daulatabad Fort etc.
